It is random, sometimes one of the players can connect without downloading any patch file, sometimes not. Larian needs to fix this ASAP.

So newer update, I tried the collections idea, and they got 30 out of my 33 so after installing that through the loading screen taking an hour or so for both of my other friends, then after connecting we played for a bit until the next day, one person connected right away while the other said "installing" even though we didnt change anything or update anything at all???? This installation took about 35 minutes to finish, I just dont know what is going on. It is a game bug, it has started happening after Dec 5th patch.

I've reported it to Larian Studios and they will give an update on this soon. I've tried every single method I've found and there is no fix. It is random.
